Fun in Action provides a one-on-one befriending service to children from disadvantaged lone parent families in the Brighton and Hove area of East Sussex.

Jane, lone mother of four children under 10.

A recent survey showed that:
88% of parents of befriended children noted a marked improvement in their child’s behaviour
69% of children said they felt much more confident in facing problems
76% of children reported that they had learnt new things and taken on new challenges
In addition, our befriended children show a noticable improvement in school attendance and in their attitude to their studies.

Brighton Oasis Project

Charity Chuckle
Stand-up for Women and their Families
with drug and alcohol problems
Tuesday 8th March 2010, International Women’s Day
Brighton Oasis Project is a women only service that aims to improve the lives and maximise the potential of the diverse range of women, children and young people affected by substance misuse. We seek to prevent and reduce drug and alcohol related harm to women and their families by providing services which offer a continuum of support from harm minimization through to total abstinence, which are complemented by specialist services for children, young people and women working in the sex industry.
Oasis exists as a women only service to provide a welcoming and friendly environment with childcare facilities to try and address the inequality women face in getting help with their substance misuse. We know from asking our service users that they really appreciate the space to look at their problems in a women only environment. Our services for children and young people are non gender specific.

Target TB

Charity Chuckle
Stand-up to Target TB
Tuesday 8th February 2011
TB is one of the world’s biggest killer diseases and it is thriving in developing countries because of poverty. The situation is so serious that the World Health Organization has declared TB a ‘global emergency’ and Target TB was established in 2003 in direct response.
Despite the scale of the problem, TB has been a relatively neglected issue. TB kills as many people as HIV/AIDS (about 4,500 per day), and double that of malaria, yet lacks sufficient funding and prioritisation by donors and policy makers.
Our vision at Target TB is a world free from TB and our mission is to address the health, social and economic impact of the global TB epidemic amongst vulnerable and marginalised groups. We currently work with local partners in 7 countries across Africa and Asia with some of the highest TB burdens in the world.

it’s one of the best things we have ever done.“
Lynn Stevens, Fundraising Manager, Target TB
